Ghanshyam
Father of four, husband, devout Hindu, lover of life and dying walla. Ghanshyam is known throughout the block printing town of Sanganer for his superb vegetable dying silks.
He grew up in Kaladera, a village outside of Jaipur. Some of his earliest memories were made dancing around in a tub full of mud, mincing it to a fine paste for his father to use in his mud printed fabrics.
At age 16 he learnt the art of natural dying from his guru and has since been perfecting this art. When asked how he knows whether or not to add more dye to the pot, he simply answers “if I am hungry, I ask for one more chapatti. If silk is hungry, it ask me for more alizarin”.
